The National Association of Credit Bureaus (ANBC) highlights the essential role of credit ratings in Brazil
An instrument of the Positive Registry, the credit rating promotes transparency and balance in credit operations, strengthening trust between lenders and borrowers
The credit score, worldwide, is an essential indicator used in credit operations. Just as we build a professional CV during our lifetime, the credit score is the financial history of consumers and companies, reflecting how they manage their financial obligations over time.
In Brazil, the credit score is calculated by the five main bureaus authorized by the Central Bank (Boa Vista-Equifax, Quod, Serasa-Experian, SPC Brasil and TransUnion). Each bureau uses specific criteria to calculate the score, highlighting the importance of regularly monitoring the position in each of them.
With the inclusion of positive information by the Cadastro Positivo, such as up-to-date payments and a stable financial history, as well as other relevant databases for credit assessment, consumers and companies can now count on a more complete and fair assessment by creditors. This model helps to strengthen the relationship between borrowers and credit providers, promoting a more inclusive and balanced market. According to Elias Sfeir, executive president of ANBC, "the credit score not only evaluates, but empowers the borrower, facilitating access to fairer conditions for financing and loans".
Elias stresses that monitoring the credit rating is fundamental. "It is essential that each borrower regularly monitors their credit score and tries to understand how to improve their credit score, thus ensuring a better position in the credit market," he says.
The credit score goes beyond being just a metric for granting credit. It promotes a more balanced relationship between creditors and borrowers, reflecting credit behavior such as punctual payments and full settlement of obligations.
Unlike other indicators, the credit score cannot be artificially raised; it is built up over time, based on the actual financial history of the individual or company. To better understand the credit score itself and obtain more information about the Cadastro Positivo, consumers can access the websites of the authorized bureaus. This transparency reinforces trust and highlights the educational role of the credit score in strengthening the national financial market.
