ANBC represents Latin America in global debate on Artificial Intelligence and credit in South Africa
Between June 25 and 27, 2025, ANBC took part in the ICCR Spring Plenary Meeting, held in Cape Town, South Africa. The event, promoted by the International Committee on Credit Reporting (ICCR), an international committee linked to the World Bank, brought together regulatory authorities, experts and representatives of the private sector from various countries to discuss the impacts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on credit granting and data protection.
The president of ANBC and representative of ALACRED (Latin American Association of Credit Bureaus), Elias Sfeir, took part as a panelist on the 25th in the panel “Impacts of Artificial Intelligence on Credit Risk Management and Decision Making”. During his presentation, he shared cases from Latin America on the use of AI in credit analysis, highlighting the technological advances and regulatory challenges faced in the region.
The panel, moderated by Fredesvinda F. Montes Herraiz, senior specialist at the World Bank, also included David Pereira (Central Bank of Brazil), Oky Sandi Rumadi Sihombing (Indonesian Financial Services Authority) and Alison Magrath (Credit Agencies Association of South Africa).
During the debate, the impacts of AI on automated decision-making, data security and the ethics of credit were discussed, as well as the need for regulation that balances innovation, consumer protection and the stability of the financial system. Sfeir highlighted the role of credit bureaus in data governance, information security and the promotion of credit with financial inclusion, reinforcing the importance of harmonizing the visions of the market, regulators and society.
The 2025 edition of the Spring Plenary also included the first face-to-face meeting of the Africa Regional Consultative Group (RCG) and a regulatory forum dedicated to the advancement of Open Finance and the evolution of credit information systems.
