Is denial the same thing as default? Do debts cease to exist after 5 years? Is there a deadline for the debtor to be removed from the list of defaulters? At first glance, the questions related to negativity seem easy to answer, and their answers totally understandable. But it only takes a close look at the numbers of debtors in the country to see that a large part of the population is unaware of these answers.

According to data from the credit bureau sector, the country had just over 62 million defaulters in August, with the average amount of debt per person at around R$ 3.9 thousand. In the ranking of the main debts, those involving banks and cards come first, followed by those related to utilities, referring to water, gas and energy bills.

In this context, the National Association of Credit Bureaus (ANBC) is promoting yet another action aimed at financial education and has just launched an initiative that aims to answer the main questions about negativity. The publication also details the repercussions of denials on the lives of debtors, creditors and the economy, as well as highlighting the role of credit bureaus in promoting sustainable credit.

“Financial planning is a fundamental factor for the conscious use of resources by consumers and companies, and in order for it to be carried out properly it is necessary to have knowledge of financial education,” says Elias Sfeir, president of ANBC.

“Aware of this need, the credit bureau sector has promoted a series of actions aimed at the financial education of Brazilians and we, as an association, are always looking for initiatives that encourage the consolidation of a healthier credit environment and social well-being,” Sfeir concludes.
