At this time of year, the June festivities are one of the main economic drivers in the Northeast, moving various sectors and encouraging consumption throughout the region. According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, the period is responsible for moving more than R$ 1 billion in the regional economy, with an emphasis on commerce, hotels and the service sector. This warming scenario is reinforced by the increase in credit in the region, which grew by 13.5% in 2024, surpassing the national average (11.5%) and continues to grow at significant rates.

Credit has proved to be an important ally in boosting household consumption. In 2024, states such as Piauí (16.1%), Bahia (14.7%) and Alagoas (14.3%) led this expansion, demonstrating greater access by the population and companies to lines of finance. However, faced with a projected slowdown in Brazil's GDP and local economies, the president of the National Association of Credit Bureaus (ANBC), Elias Sfeir, warns of the need for balance in the use of these resources.

“Credit is fundamental for boosting the economy, but it must be used with planning, especially during festive periods. June traditions bring in millions and we know that credit can be an opportunity to boost business or even cover a specific need for individuals, as long as families and entrepreneurs avoid committing their finances to long-term debts that compromise more than 30% of their income,” he says.

With a credit balance of around R$ 1 trillion in the region, financial sustainability depends on both responsible supply by institutions and consumer awareness. Data from the credit bureau sector's default map reinforces the importance of this balance, showing that access to credit must be accompanied by financial education.

“Conscious consumption during the June period is always the best choice. The recommendation is that families prioritize spending within their real needs, consider their economic possibilities, compare rates before taking out loans and avoid using revolving credit for non-essential expenses. The June festivities can be enjoyed without compromising the population's financial health,” concludes Sfeir.
