Cross-party initiative seeks to expand financial inclusion and democratize responsible credit for millions of Brazilians
The expansion of access to credit in Brazil has been given a new boost with the creation of the Joint Parliamentary Front for the Democratization of Credit and Financial Services. The initiative, which will be chaired by Congressman Capitão Alberto Neto (PL/AM), aims to develop, structure and implement public policies that guarantee this right as an instrument of citizenship, always focusing on the responsibility and financial education of the population. The Front was launched on Tuesday (18) at a dinner in Brasília.
Made up of 196 federal deputies and 2 senators who are signatories, the Front seeks to reduce barriers, promoting financial inclusion for vulnerable groups such as low-income people, pensioners, women and people with special needs. The Front will act in a supra-partisan manner and in dialog with government bodies, civil society and the private sector, promoting studies, debates and policies that strengthen economic freedom and legal security in the market. Among the priorities are financial inclusion, reducing the cost of credit, transparency in data management and innovation in the sector.
Supported by congressmen from multiple parties and various entities from the financial sector, the Front has the active participation of organizations committed to democratizing access to financial services and building a more inclusive and efficient environment. The National Association of Credit Bureaus (ANBC) and the National Association of Professionals and Companies Promoting Credit and Correspondents in the Country (Aneps), which are part of the National Institute for the Democratization of Credit (INDC), are key players in this initiative, representing civil society in the Parliamentary Front. Together, these organizations will be fundamental in implementing debates, research and building a more efficient and inclusive credit environment.
“This front was born with a clear and urgent purpose: to expand access to credit for all Brazilians, as an instrument of financial inclusion and opportunity. We cannot accept credit being a factor of exclusion and hopelessness. Expanding access to credit is not only a matter of social justice, but also an intelligent strategy for economic growth. We will work tirelessly and propose measures to make credit more accessible and sustainable. Our commitment is to inclusion, development and a fairer country,” said Captain Alberto.
“The expansion of responsible credit is essential for the country's economic growth and for people's financial dignity. The Parliamentary Front is an important step towards ensuring that more Brazilians have access to this right in a transparent and sustainable way,” said Elias Sfeir, president of the National Association of Credit Bureaus (ANBC).
“We have been working hard for a long time to set up a forum in parliament that is aligned with the Brazilian reality, with a primary focus on the emancipation of the entire population, in terms of inclusion and democratization of access to credit, other financial services and education, without the constant and permanent shadow of people, bodies and entities confusing protection with guardianship of the citizen,” said Edison Costa, president of Aneps.
The Mixed Parliamentary Front for the Democratization of Credit and Financial Services will operate nationwide and will last indefinitely, ensuring that the issue remains under permanent debate in the National Congress.
