ANBC defends balanced regulation of AI and financial inclusion at the 3rd Economic Freedom Symposium
ANBC took part in the 3rd Economic Freedom Symposium, held in Brasilia on June 11, consolidated as one of the main national forums for debate on public policies and the regulatory environment. The event brought together authorities, businesspeople and experts to discuss practical solutions to boost the productive sector and promote a more dynamic and sustainable business environment in Brazil.
During the symposium, ANBC's president, Elias Sfeir, took part in a panel that covered topics such as credit, digital payments, financial inclusion and the regulatory challenges facing new technologies. In his speech, he pointed out that Brazil has a tradition of dialogue between the public and private sectors, and that the main points of regulatory attention today involve the cloud, artificial intelligence, tokenization and quantum computing.
Sfeir pointed out that Brazilian credit bureaus have been using machine learning for more than two decades and that the advance of generative AI requires a modern and specialized regulatory approach. He presented six essential pillars for effective AI regulation:
- Clear definitions of artificial intelligence;
- Legitimization of risk-based credit discrimination;
- Regulatory risk classification to avoid stifling innovation;
- Prohibition of overlapping penalties;
- Using synthetic data to train models;
- Governance with regulatory agencies with specific technical knowledge.
He also stressed the importance of harmonizing the views of consumers, regulators and the market, through permanent spaces for study and debate. He also advocated digital, financial and cyber literacy initiatives, stressing that training users is just as important as technological progress.
ANBC's participation reinforces its commitment to responsible innovation, financial education and building a fairer, safer and more inclusive credit ecosystem.
